The story behind Hollow Wise
I built the support I could not find.
I'm Shelly, the founder and creator of Hollow Wise.
Hollow Wise did not begin with a business plan. It began after a period of severe burnout and depression, when I had been carrying more responsibility than I had the capacity to hold.
For a long time, I felt responsible for managing not only the practical needs of my household, but also the decisions and emotions surrounding them. Eventually, I reached a point where I could not make one more decision.
I did not gradually become less productive. I stopped.
My home became neglected and filled with clutter. It was not because I did not care. I cared deeply. But every object seemed to contain another decision: where it belonged, what should happen next, and whether dealing with it would open an even larger task.
The systems that were supposed to help usually gave the responsibility right back to me. They expected me to create the plan, organize the work, maintain the routine, and motivate everyone—including myself—to follow it.
What I needed was much simpler.
We are starting here. This is the one thing we are doing. You do not have to solve the rest of the room right now.
Curiosity returned before the plan did
Hollow Wise did not appear during the worst part of my depression. It began later, when I was recovering and starting to feel like myself again.
The first spark was not cleaning. It was a recipe.
I saw a recipe online, took a screenshot, and gave it to ChatGPT. I asked it to tell me how to make what I saw. That experiment became an attempt to build a recipe-extraction database—despite the fact that I knew almost nothing about building software.
The project changed direction several times. I became frustrated and put it down. I came back to it. One idea led into another and eventually circled back to where I had started.
Part of what held my attention was precisely that I did not understand the technology. I am autistic and have ADHD. When something is unfamiliar, complicated, and full of possibilities, my curiosity can become intense.
AI gave me a way to explore those possibilities. I have used it extensively to help me learn, write, design, test, and build Hollow Wise. The product remains in early access, and independent professional review is still an important part of its future development.
I do not present myself as a traditional software engineer. I am a person with a problem, a point of view, and the determination to keep asking questions until the thing in front of me works better.
A Choose Your Own Adventure for ordinary life
Home Wise began taking shape when I wanted to help make cleaning our kitchen less overwhelming and easier to follow.
At first, I thought I was designing the experience for someone else. In practice, I built it in the way I wanted to be helped.
I have always loved interactive menus and Choose Your Own Adventure books. Hollow Wise began to feel like an adult version of that experience.
You make one bounded choice. The system shows you what comes next. You can continue, choose another direction, or stop.
The entire house does not need to become one enormous problem. You do not need to plan every step before you begin. You do not have to earn the right to stop by exhausting yourself.
That interaction became the foundation of Hollow Wise.
Support should not create another manager
Many household systems still require someone to operate the system behind the work.
Someone has to notice what needs attention, make the list, divide the responsibilities, answer the questions, maintain the routine, and absorb everyone's frustration when the plan fails.
That is not always shared support. Sometimes it is invisible management with a better interface.
Hollow Wise is built around a different idea:
Support can mean carrying the decision that makes participation possible.
Home Wise helps narrow cleaning and home care to one useful next step based on the situation and capacity a person has today.
Hollow Wise will not turn food into a score, track weight, or treat feeding yourself or your household as a measure of personal success.
What Hollow Wise is today
Hollow Wise is a founder-led early-access project under active development.
Its recommendations come from a curated task library that I guide and shape. The goal is not to improvise endless advice. It is to offer a bounded, useful action with a reason and a clear stopping point.
AI has been used extensively in the development of Hollow Wise. Independent technical, security, accessibility, cleaning-safety, and food-safety review will be added as the project progresses. Hollow Wise should not claim authority it has not earned.
Early informal feedback has shown me that the underlying experience is not mine alone. People have recognized themselves in the problem and told me that the product feels as though it understands how their minds work.
That response matters. It tells me the need is real.
It does not replace structured testing. Hollow Wise still needs to demonstrate that its guidance is consistently useful, usable, respectful, and safe for people beyond my own household.
I intend to learn in public without pretending that an early experiment is a finished institution.
The promise
Hollow Wise will not ask you to become an ideal version of yourself before it helps you.
Without judgment
It will not grade your home, punish you for leaving, or treat inconsistency as a character defect.
One smaller decision
You do not need to organize the entire problem before you are allowed to begin.
Bring today
Bring the time, energy, and capacity you have today.
Hollow Wise will not turn food into a moral score or your household into a performance.
Hollow Wise will help make the next decision smaller.
